You need proof of an International Travel insurance that covers at least 50,000 USD in case of an accident. We recommend you visit this site: https://www.imglobal.com/ (we have no partnership whatsoever with this company); but you are free to choose any travel insurance of your convenience.
Proof of immunization status for: Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR vaccine), Chickenpox (Varicella vaccine) and Diptheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DPT or Tdap vaccine). Also, if you have any relevant health conditions, please let us know (food allergies, drug allergies, etc.).
In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the date the program starts. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions to this requirement.
You DO NOT need to speak Spanish to participate in our program. We have professionals Spanish-English interpreters that will be there for you at all times.
Although this program is oriented to undergraduate or graduated students interested in a health-related career, it is NOT necessary that you meet this criteria to participate in our program.
In order to participate in our program you must fill and send us via email to [email protected] all the application documents we will provide you when you begin your registration process. These documents include: Volunteer Application Form, Immunization Form, Waiver and Release Form, Publicity Release Form, Volunteer Agreement, your CV, recent photograph and a copy of your passport.
There are no current restrictions based on your nationality. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome!
During your staying we will required your participation in all the scheduled activities (check out our Itinerary Sample below). However, during your free time you can do other activities (not planned or related to Kalan Kuxtal) at your own risk and expense.
Naturally, all applicants must also have a genuine willingness to help others, show drive and initiative, bring a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and be respectful with our staff, other volunteers and, most importantly, with the people in the communities.
